Publication of the Brief Study “Green District Heating – Potentials, Costs and Implementation”.

On behalf of the BDEW – German Association of Energy and Water Industries, the FfE, together with the Hamburg Institute, has written a brief study on the development of district heating in Germany.

In the study, the FfE investigated which technical measures are necessary to realize a sustainable district heating supply. In addition to an analysis of systemic studies on the future role of district heating (see exemplary Figure 1), profiles were prepared to provide overviews of both technical decarbonization measures to integrate climate-neutral heat sources and for supportive transformation measures.

Furthermore, a procedure for the efficient development of an optimal transformation path for heat supply was elaborated.

Figure 1: Example showing the range of possible developments from selected studies, here the share of climate-neutral heat sources in district heating over time.
